Inaugural Study and Work Program 2006

Starts in September

The first course to be offered at SIBA (our new centre in Gippsland) will be a special three month study and work program. The program will start on Friday the 1st of September and will finish on Thursday the 30th November 2006.



The course will include formal study of Buddhism, Tibetan language, meditation practice and several hours of work each day. The cost, teachers, subjects etc. and many details are yet to be finalised.

07:52 am - Tibetan Intensive Language Course 2006
There will be a short 6th Annual Intensive Tibetan language class in January 2006. The course will start at 9.30 am Friday 13 January and finish at 4.00 pm on Sunday 22nd of January 2006. The classes will be held from 9.30 am-5.00 pm every day. The course fee is $350.00 and is payable to the "Tibetan Translation Fund". PO Box 116, Kippax ACT 2615. Ordained Sangha and those who have financial difficulties; formal registration is however required.
Accommodation is available here at the Retreat Centre for $105 per week (+ food).

07:47 am - Rongton - An Introduction to Buddhism, Term 4
Buddhism is respected as one of the main great religions of the world. But in fact Buddhism does not require one to believe in how the world came into existence. In this course, one will learn some of the fundamental concepts taught by the Buddha, including the Life of the Buddha; his chief disciples; karma; rebirth; how one becomes a Buddhist; and the importance of meditation in Buddhist practice. Each session will have a short meditation followed by the discourse.

Time: 7.30pm – 9.45pm Tuesday nights.
Venue: The Tibetan Buddhist Society of Canberra, 25 Alderman Street, Evatt.
Cost: $100 for the whole term, $75 conc & members or $15 per week (GST incl).
Payment can be made on the first night of teachings

02:34 pm - Pilgrimage to India and Nepal
Lama Choedak Rinpoche will again lead his popular pilgrimage to holy sites in Nepal and India. This year's pilgrimage will start actually in Kathmandu on the 15 December 2005 and will finish in Bangalore on the 10 January 2006.

The pilgrimage will go first to Kathmandu, Lumbini and Pokhara in Nepal then the holy sites in India, Varanasi, Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Kushinagar, Dehradun and then to South India for four days teachings with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

During the pilgrimage we will travel in comfortable trains and deluxe coaches and will be staying in good quality hotels as a group. We will also have an experienced travel agent to look after our comfort and safety. There will be daily group practice sessions led by Lama Choedak Rinpoche.

Buddhist philosophy classes this term will be on the subject of the "THOUSAND SONGS OF MILAREPA"Milarepa's teachings are contained in spiritual songs of experience and advice. It is one of the earliest books on Tibetan Buddhism to be translated into English. There will be teachings on several songs and this well be followed by Rinpoche singing one song of Milarepa each class. Classes will be taught by Lama Choedak Rinpoche on Tuesday nights from 7.30 - 9.30 pm commencing on the 19th July. these are held at the Evatt centre. cost $100 for term, $75 conc. & members or $15 per week.
